every town

lino cut fun with direct refrencs to japanese woodcuts and culture ( which fasinates me ) love lino cuts ..( wood cut tends to be a lot more rough and partially unresolved.. I like the definition of lino ..a lot safer too ! )

Every one assumed

Ahh here is a thing..lots in here.. this is one of those things that I really can't explain..where it came from or the process that brought it all together.. All i know is I wanted snapshots or polaroids..some thing that suggested a photo album..( I have a thing about photo albums.. where we only show the edited highlights from our lives..happy thoughts..) Anyhow I thought as a narrative thing that the ' Ending " would be unresolved and enigmatic.. no-one would be sure if they ended together or if some-thing happens to them... just like the uncertainty of life thing.we never know and I wanted to reflect the dark fairy tail aspect.Read from left to right..

island gal

A hix media thing / experiment where i had done a style test with the girl and wasn't expecting any kind of a good result.. so i didn,t plan a background...so when it turned out better than I expected I was stumped for a background.... At the time I was discovering photoshop for the first time and lo! there was a great fractual tool... lots of fun, lots of posibillities...ahh.. In the end it came together well.

bob and jane

Hee hee... happy little pigs.. a loose little scribble that became one of my lino cuts ..a quiet favorite of mine

bill

Ahh Bill.. from my heady optimistic art school days..and the discovery of Talking Heads , a bit late I know but hey I'm a late musical bloomer..The album in question was Naked ..their last and well... the best.. It covered a lot of ground and the words were wonderfull.. they introduced me to the aural tradition (poetry and spoken word ..beat poetry daddyo).... it all came together with my love of illustrating text..and the Naked album was a rich playground of images..Bill was just one of them..maybe more later..

clem seven

clem part of six

here's where thing get interesting for our half dead hero

clockwork orange

Oh yeah baby! crazy as a clockwork orange.. ( old cockny slang, from where comes the title o the book! ) not much fun here as it was an attemp to slide into a MAMBO- esk style.. I can't say it really suits me and ( I think it shows ) but as an illustrator I've got to try something outside my comfort zone occasionally to see what I'm actually capable of..Note , in the origonal he had genitals ..for some reason I left them out here..

wood cut

let's get traditional... My love at art school was ( and still is ) print making ..maybe because it is so umm graphic and exacting... I fell in love with Japanese wood cuts and still get a thrill at the whole process from the cutting to the inking and printing .. ( I say this all now sounding romantic and dreamy.. but I know there were times of frustration and allmost going postal! Getting a print done PERFECT and then leaving a big dirty smudge on the side AAARGGGG! or almost having to go to the hospital because I've got a lino cutting tool sticking out of my hand.. nothing like a bit of fluid to compleate the blood sweat and tears trillogy!) Well it's all worth it there's lessons to to learnt ( allways cut AWAY from you when using a cutting tool )

conformists unite

here's a little bit o fun..lovely lady who does get stuff got me to do this for her blog check it out and see whats going on what it's all about.. I could try and explain but it's more fun to dive in a find out for yourself.. The art was (thankfully ) something I had been playing with and put it in the " later " pile..so when I got the call.. "i need something by YESTERDAY I was able to mesh this together...

Love doll

Oh yes ..love doll.... In hindsight I can't think why there were some who had problems with the pics I was doing at the time ..Tee Hee ... well htere's not much I can say about this I'm happier to just let this sit and let you work it out .. ( is there anything to explain?)

City

Hey ho , lets go! the wonderfull age of comuters is apon us .. and this is work marks one of the first efforts to meld my work with the electronic tool... Photoshop.. the name even now it sends a shiver thru my body... both fear ..love and repulsion..there is part of me that quakes in horror of the progressive march of techno art.. and the other half is waving a flag at the front of the colloum. I've come to realise that it's all good ..and ( like most things ) you get from it what you want...it's only a tool ..and like most other art tools..( watercolour, oils ..sculpture..etc ) some projects require the right medium.... Here I've been able to soften lines and smooth surfaces where I'dve usually gone all out overworked a line and fucked it all up.. ( thank the gods for the history key! )colour graduation is heaven sent and I can't even think about the range of colours with out drooling... yummmy!

young love

O.k true belivers , here's another offering from the fine art vault...This is probably one of my favorites.. I Really can't say why ...It was one that I started to not add enigmatic text to , as I thought this was a pretty bizarro Image by itself...... There was some latin attached to it ,but not enuff to explain why a madien was stroking a bull! zeues and euopa? Any-whoo it went well with the punters and of the last show I had this was one of the two that sold! the couple that bought it said " It reminds us of us! " o.k thinks me..... it turns out he's a taurus and she's a virgo! this pic I think started to change the colour values i had.. and where i start to push thru the harmonics and veer towards a more discordance.. ( a little bit more bitey and zingy)
