Ummm.......

O.k you've been very patient with me a I've been mooving and haven't posted anthing for a while...so I thought I'd trat you all to something from the "dark vault" where I keep all the embarassing , seedy and just plain weird stuff...
So this was a photo project from art school portraits and the like ...the breif was a little vauge so I went all out.. here sister Sam helped me..we went for a Christene Keeler kind of look..sultry,sexy and ( yep ) seedy..tee hee I got top marks for the exercise.you'll NEVER see the other ones ..this Is quite enuff.. Back to illustrating because I'll never get the modelling contract that this photo was going to get for me! This was the other photo I was going to use for my profile.. I decided against it as I was afraid I'd scare people off or get the wrong ummm Interested bloggers.. maybe I should use it for a fake R.S.V.P date profile instead see what kind of response I get?

Fiji mermaid

aloha! This little cutie was born out of an X-files episode ( all the world's a stage ) one of my faves where the carnie tells of the Fiji
mermaid.. a creation ( or humbug to use the circus term ) where he got a body of a fish the head of an oragatang and the breasts of a baboon ( ewww!) sewed it all together and exhibited it as a genuine fraud? It still sold tickets.. the original is still in the Peabody museum ( of course it is! ) and yes it still draws crowds!............ any-hoo my pic is a little more flattering to the notion of the whole mermaid thing..all though most think the horny drunk sailors were seeing dugongs or seals ..

City Sketches

Ahh yes ..back to the sketch book.. Here's a page from my wanderings in the metropollis..there's something in a city that I love...be it new York or Sydney ..Not that I know much about architecture ,but when It works ..yummy I've got a lot of respect for urban designers and the ilk.... here I've let the line ( and idears ) run riot...... there's just the start of the feeling of the organic nature of a city-scape..... there's other drawings that are ..well there's no other way to say it.. like a mad woman's mind..but your not ready for those yet.. here I've blasted into the line work..it's my eternal weakness knowing when to stop...to over work a pic ...arggggg!sometimesit's o.k to leave it..semi finishes ..it's good to show where a picture came from...other times there's nothing left than to try and fix the bloody thing by finishing it...it's a fine line...

Buayabo

O.k so here goes, I do two types of art...comic cartoon and illustrations or some thing a little umm serious? You can tune out when you get bored here.. It might get a little post-modern and arty-farty... what i try and do is get old ( 16th 17th century) wood cuts and colorise them..Easy you say! well herein lies the rub old chums..I'm trying to inverse the colors so instead of using the flesh tones for faces and skin , I'll use a blue or lilac (eeeeeeeeeekkk!)within that I'll try and get a compimentry colour to harmonise..yep harder still...now to add a another layer of complexity , I try and get colors that work together and yet don't quite gell... Like a lemon flavor (tangy sweet and sour..yeah i bet I'm making a whole lot of sense right now .. i sound like the acid head musician at the mixing desk screaming " just make it sound more purple o.k! " ) to top the whole thing off I'll use an Image that is ..well interesting.. the last lot I used were religious icons madonna And child ..etc..when I showed them to folks the reactions were mixed.....from blase to a zealot who condemmed me to the firey pits of hell...Hmmm...so does changing the emotional colour range of a icon ( e.g nazi flag, MacDonald's logo ) alter the image? Hmmmm

Tuesday, September 05, 2006

Once again, this started as a doodle. Uber rough and linear, hard edges ( And a bit more fun ) However I've found that some images only work with certain media...and how-ever much as I loved the original, the Story brief was Anti-matter...And full of sci-fi boffin jargon..so a little slicker and computer generated was the way... The main idear remains but as you can see ..some-thing is lost, some-thing is gained...I don't know ..maybee one day I'll do some-thing with the starting sketch.....( I won't include the dwarves.. I don't know where these things come from.. It's a deep dark well of a subconscious..sometimes things just bubble up....)

Page 4 ( more Clem)

More from my Half dead hero.....The names for the pig boys comes from the crowded house bio, where after a series of events Nick Seymore ( bassist ) ended up pianting some pigs with various slogans ( including sex pig ) the pigs went on the next day to be extras in an episode of country pratice with the writing still on them....I'd love to see the show and see if I could spot them in the background...
Roll in the mad

One of my Favorite things in the world..A good friend has a cutie of a niece..Who do this drawing for me ( and of me too I think ..As I would push my nose up at her and oink..Hours of fun!) I'm not too sure what it is about the pic that makes me smile when-ever I look at it.. Is it the x0x0x0 kisses or the pig face that would do any out-sider artist proud? ( note the attention to detail) is she saying that she's a pig? or is it the line that has become a by-word in my family " you roll in the mad!" we know she means mud but hey!..from the mouths of babes...If i could I'd get a tattoo of this ..or make a flag, for me it symbolizes all that is silly and fun in the world .. I love kids drawings and find the freedom that they contain intoxicating ..

halloween

Halloween ( any excuse for a dress up ) my favorite time of the year..trick or treating ,the costumes, the flights of witches.. My Pal holds an anuall party and we all take a lot of trouble to look our best..My costume was a soccer ball cut in half with mop strands glued on ...there's nothing like paying the bridge toll..with a couple of vampires ( think Francis Ford Copolla's Dracula..) in the front with a bloodied zombie in the back waving and drooling..what fun! This years party is fast approaching and I'm lost for idears....Day of the triffids?Glen or Glenda?Robot monster...or my personal fav , Bender from Futurama.. I could drink , swear ,fart, belch , steal and remain in character...I'm going to have to delve deep into the sci-fi archives to get some-thing good ..no great...
